Trouble spots:

1.  Sink Cabinets

Sink cabinets take the most abuse.  Drips from washing dishes can cause cabinet finishes to fail over time.  Give a quick wipe down of your sink cabinet with a dry clean cloth after washing up to keep finishes in the best condition and avoid warping or swelling of your cabinet doors.   Farmhouse sinks are notorious for dripping onto the tops of the door frames since water tends to roll down the front of them and then drip straight down onto the doors.  Be especially vigilant if you have a farmhouse sink.

2.  Trash can pull outs

Trash can pull out cabinets also take lots of abuse.  Use caution when throwing items away, most damage occurs when something hard dents or scrapes the top of the pullout door.   Keep the doors clean from spills and drips.   Try not to close the pullouts by pushing on the actual wood, but on the hardware only.

3.  Around knobs and pulls

Most people use the pulls or handles to open doors and drawers, but close them by pushing on the actual wood parts.  Get in the habit of always using your handles or pulls to both open and close cabinets.   Oils from your hands are the enemy of your finished cabinetry, and over time, without proper cleaning, the finish will be compromised by those oils.  Clean around your knobs and pulls often with a cabinet cleaner (not a household cleaner).

4.  Cabinets over the stove

These often are hit with steam and grease from cooking.  They are also up higher and often the most neglected when it comes to cleaning.  Recirculating Microwaves or Hood fans will especially coat your cabinets with grease and oil.  Pay special attention to these cabinets and any that abut them.

5.  Improper cleaning supplies

Use a cabinet cleaner and not harsh cleaners like bleach.  Most spray cleaners use oils that only build up over time and make your cabinets more difficult to clean in the future.  Use a cabinet cleaner such as Final Touch Kitchen Cabinet Cleaner found on Amazon.
